Speedway welcomes Cardiff return
The Millennium Stadium in Cardiff
Speedway is back at the Millennium Stadium
World speedway's best riders return to Cardiff this weekend relishing the opportunity to compete in the Millennium Stadium once again.

The British leg of the Speedway Grand Prix was so popular with both competitors and fans last year when it was held at the Welsh Rugby Union's home that this season's event is being viewed with much anticipation.

Former world champion Billy Hamill believes that the British Grand Prix is set to become the biggest meeting in the world.

The 31-year-old American took the world title in 1996 and now rides for Coventry Bees.

Atmosphere

"All the Grands Prix are big meetings now, but Cardiff looks as if it's becoming the granddaddy of them all," Hamill said.

"It generated the sort of atmosphere last year that everyone has longed for in speedway."

Toni Rickardsson claimed victory in last year's British Grand Prix in Cardiff on his way to winning the world title.

The Swede got off to a flyer in this season's opening GP in Norway, but was beaten into second place by Tomasz Gollob in the last round in Poland.
