"Caterham, who raced as Team Lotus last season, have been the best of the three new teams who joined the sport in 2010, however, I can't help but feel they should have progressed more than they have.

"Last season, they showed encouraging signs when they challenged the tail of the midfield but it wasn't consistent enough.

"I am a big fan of their technical director Mark Smith - he worked with me at Jordan, as did their chief technical officer Mike Gascoyne. Both those guys know how to build a good car.

"Owner Tony Fernandes made a big decision in bringing in Vitaly Petrov for Jarno Trulli, but you would have to say money must have played a role in that move."
