Heidfeld has been replaced by Sauber, but could do a job elsewhere

"What can you say about Nick Heidfeld?

"He is a fast, if solid, journeyman racing driver as he always was, and Sauber knew exactly what they were getting when they took him on to replace Pedro de la Rosa for the final five races of the year.

"After leaving test roles with Mercedes and 2011 tyre supplier Pirelli to fill in at Sauber, Heidfeld has been replaced by Mexican Sergio Perez for next season.

"Heidfeld has apparently navigated his way into redundancy which is a shame but if a team needs a driver in a hurry, he is a fast and safe pair of hands."
