F1 team review - Toyota

"I'm really disappointed that Toyota have decided to pull out of F1 although it has not come as a huge surprise.

"They've been a long time in the business and the company is a huge achiever, but the F1 team did not seem to deliver what they should have.

"When fellow Japanese car giant Honda withdrew last December the team continued as Brawn Grand Prix and the rest is history.

"I hope Toyota will leave the sport with the same dignity and allow the team to continue in a new guise.

"Toyota signed a new Concorde Agreement in the summer committing them to F1 until 2012 and so it could be possible for the team to continue in another form if the rest of the grid allow it.

"A free spot on the grid could also signal the re-emergence of Sauber, which would be nice to see. But it is sad to see Toyota go; when they decided to supply engines in 2005, the first team they supplied was Jordan.

"They had the budget, the technology and the ability but very seldom had all of them come together at the same time - and that has not changed this year.

"Toyota were difficult to pin down. I can't understand how, when Jarno Trulli was on the podium, Timo Glock was nowhere to be seen - and vice versa. I find that strange. If the car is good, you would expect both drivers to be competitive, as they are of very similar quality.

"Glock drove one of the races of the season to finish second in Singapore. Yet Trulli was nowhere there. Then in Japan a week later Trulli was on the podium, and Glock had the accident that kept him out for the last two races of the season.

"So there was a big question mark there. It looks as if the car was quite OK and the drivers and team needed to get more out of it."
