Bahrain became in 2004 the first country in the Middle East to host a Formula One Grand Prix.

That makes it an important event from the commercial point of view, and no expense has been spared with the track.

But although it was designed by F1's in-house architect and has superlative facilities, the general view is that it is not a match for Malaysia's Sepang.

However, its desert location adds interest, and the track's width and layout encourages lots of overtaking.
