Pirelli has nominated the hard and soft dry tyre compounds for the first four rounds of the 2011 championship: Bahrain, Australia, Malaysia and China. Their aim is to have two pit stops at every race.

Ross Brawn has insisted he is comfortable with the way Mercedes GP's preparations for the new season are going despite questions being raised about the form of the new W02. "Our current package includes some compromises, and we know that there is more performance to come from the car," said Brawn.

Three-time world champion Sir Jack Brabham OBE, Williams chief Sir Frank Williams CBE, 1979 title holder Jody Scheckter and three-time IndyCar Series champion Dario Franchitti were all inducted into the Motor Sport Hall of Fame at a ceremony in Camden's Roundhouse on Tuesday night. A delighted Williams said: "This is an amazing magic. It is an honour, something I will try not to brag about."

Williams has denied claims that Rubens Barrichello drove an underweight car when he set the fastest time in testing at Jerez last week. Sam Michael, the team's technical director, said: "The time is real. Anyone who knows our team knows that we don't run underweight. The time is down to Rubens using the super-soft tyres, and of course he had a little less fuel in the tank."
