Red Bull driver Mark Webber says his team have been doing "pretty well, performance-wise" in the pre-season tests so far. He added: "The normally fast cars are all quick - the Ferraris, the McLarens and the Red Bulls. They are all doing well."

Former Renault engineering director Pat Symonds, who was embroiled in the 2008 Singapore race-fixing controversy, is to return to Formula 1 in a consultancy role after agreeing a deal to help out the Virgin Racing team.

Former Hispania driver Karun Chandhok has not been able to drive for Lotus as expected in Jerez following what he described on his Twitter feed as a "change in programme". Team principal Tony Fernandes, who is considering taking on the Indian as reserve driver, had said Chandhok was likely to be given some time in the car at that test and next week's in Barcelona.

The second day of the Jerez test saw Michael Schumacher set the fastest time but also there were key indicators of the sheer performance of the Red Bull, the reigning world champions.
