Ferrari will launch their new F1 car in the final week of January, before the first pre-season test in Valencia, which starts on 1 February. Next Monday sees the start of the team's traditional media event at Madonna di Campiglio in the Italian Dolomites, attended by drivers Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa and team principal Stefano Domenicali.

Alonso clashed with paparazzi on his arrival with his wife Raquel del Rosario for a holiday on the Portuguese island of Porto Santo. He is caught on cameratelling them: "The first photographer or camera I see in the next days, I will leave the next day and tell everyone that Porto Santo is a disaster. OK? So please leave us alone."

Ferrari may try to delay the scheduled 2013 introduction of four-cylinder turbo-charged engines into Formula 1. President Luca di Montezemolo said: "We're not going to build four-cylinder engines for our road cars. A four-cylinder engine seems a bit weak for the pinnacle of motorsport. Why could not agree on a turbo V6? If there is the slightest possibility of delaying the four-cylinder, I'll try to get it. I sense a possibility and we need to drive to do it. "

Rubens Barrichello is confident that the strong relationship he has built with the Williams team over the past 12 months will ensure that the 'aggressive' new FW33 challenger will be a more consistently competitive prospect than its predecessor.

Michael Schumacher's deficit to team-mate Nico Rosberg in 2010 was usually explained by slow-corner driving technique, says Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn. The fact that the team did not have a top-level simulator "did not help", Brawn said, adding that they were building one that would be ready for 2012.
