Hamilton unhappy with chicane

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton has criticised changes made to the Singapore track, calling one chicane the worst he has driven in Formula 1.

Since last year, organisers have revised the chicane at Turn 10, moving the kerbs at the entry and exit to make the turn more gradual.

"I think they have made the track worse," Hamilton said.

"The chicane is pretty much the worst corner I've ever driven in Formula 1. It's ridiculous."

Singapore's Turn 10 is notoriously tricky, and was the scene of Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen's crash in 2008 and the changes to the first and third apex kerbs were intended to make it safer.

Jonathan Legard's blog All five contenders know, like the rest of us, that this event in Singapore could become a turning point in the season.

Instead, Hamilton, the 2008 world champion, believes organisers have done the opposite.

"Last year it [the chicane] was already small but now it's just a bit more dangerous," added Hamilton.

"You saw one other car take off - I think it was [Force India's] Adrian Sutil. You approach that corner at 160-70 mph and you have to brake down [to about 80mph].

"If something goes wrong, or someone's brakes fail and you hit one of those curbs you will see a nasty accident."

Practice on Friday was made that much harder because of wet conditions in Singapore with Hamilton fifth quickest and over a second behind the Red Bull of Sebastian Vettel.

Hamilton admitted that driving in the wet had been "tricky", while his team-mate Jenson Button, who was third quickest, added that the he is hoping for dry conditions this weekend.

"There is a lot of water that is coming up through the circuit so it's pretty tricky out there," said Button, the world champion.

"It's pretty difficult to see which parts are dry and which part are wet because of the glare.

"Hopefully we won't have any more rain this weekend because those conditions aren't the nicest to drive in. If it stays dry it'll be a nice couple of days for us."
