Ferrari cars will now be worked on by Fry, who has left McLaren |
Ferrari have appointed Pat Fry as assistant technical director just over a month after he quit rivals McLaren. Fry left his role as chief engineer at the Woking-based outfit in May after 18 years and his new job begins on 1 July. Ferrari say the 46-year-old will report to technical director Aldo Costa but that there will be no other changes to the technical department's structure. Fry would have played a key role in developing McLaren's 2011 car but will now use his experience at Ferrari. When Fry left the team McLaren managing director Jonathan Neale said: "Whenever somebody of Pat's calibre leaves the team it is sad, and we like Pat very much. | 606: DEBATE |
"He is a fine engineer but people have their lives to lead and want to do other things. "It doesn't give me any concern for the performance of the team or what we do for next year's car at all because we are still a team that has strength in depth and we are committed to maintaining that." McLaren lead the constructors' standings, with Red Bull second and Ferrari in third spot ahead of this weekend's European Grand Prix.
