Mark Webber will sign a contract extension with Red Bull, despite tensions within the team in the wake of his crash with team-mate Sebastian Vettel. The team will confirm the Australian's new deal before the Canadian Grand Prix on 13 June. Webber's future appeared to be in doubt when team officials seemingly blamed him for the crash with Vettel in Turkey, but clear-the-air talks this week have defused the situation.

Renault's chief race engineer Alan Permane says his team now has a pace advantage over rivals Mercedes GP. Permane says Renault need to improve their displays in qualifying in order to overhaul the reigning world champions, formerly known as Brawn. "It's down to us to make sure we do a better job in qualifying so that we can get ahead of them and exploit the full potential of our car," he said.
