The obligatory models are out in force at Istanbul Park as the morning gives way to afternoon and the 1300 BST start time approaches
The drivers are also filtering into the paddock with Ferrari's Felipe Massa and Mercedes driver Michael Schumacher enjoying a pre-race chat
The Turkish Grand Prix is not renowned for attracting huge crowds, but the fans that are in attendance are expecting an exciting race
And the action begins right from the off. Pole sitter Mark Webber makes a clean start and his Red Bull team-mate Sebastian Vettel goes past McLaren's Lewis Hamilton before Turn One.
But Hamilton fights back and reclaims second spot on Turn Four, while his McLaren team-mate Jenson Button also moves past Michael Schumacher who had gone from fifth to fourth at the start
As the race settles down, Hamilton is hunting Webber, but cannot get close enough through Turn Eight to put himself in position to overtake, while third-placed Vettel is keeping Button at bay
However, Hamilton loses second place when the British driver visits the pits for a regulation change of tyres and Vettel, who has already stopped, moves into second, behind Red Bull team-mate Webber
Thoughts of a Red Bull procession to the finish are abruptly ended though when Vettel and Webber collide when the German tries to overtake his Australian team-mate
Vettel clearly thinks the crash was not his fault as he walks away from his mangled car - Webber continues, but has to have his nose cone replaced leaving the McLarens out front
A McLaren one-two looks a formality until Button decides to put pressure on Hamilton and the duo exchange the lead twice in the space of a few heart-stopping corners
After their brief flirtation with each other, the drivers are repeatedly told to conserve fuel and the rest of the race passes without incident as Hamilton takes his first win of the season
The result means Button moves on to 88 points in the drivers' championship, five behind Webber on 93, and four ahead of Hamilton on 84
But what will Webber be thinking? Will he be happy to finish third because he knows he was close to being taken completely out, or disappointed to drop points after losing a winning position?
