Wednesday: Local hero Fernando Alonso's first drive of a Ferrari draws a huge crowd to Valencia - and causes a three-mile traffic jam. He doesn't disappoint his fans either, setting the fastest time of the morning session
Michael Schumacher undertakes his second day of testing for Mercedes. He is put in the shade by a man in a Ferrari - not a feeling with which he is familiar - and later plays down his chances of winning races from the off
Still a teenager, Jaime Alguersuari begins his second season with Toro Rosso. The 19-year-old Spaniard sets the fourth-quickest time of the day in the STR5 and is 0.375secs quicker than reigning world champion Button
Russia's Vitaly Petrov lives in Valencia. In 2007 he won a GP2 race on this very Valencia track. (He won one on the city's street circuit, too, in 2009.) But today is all about getting his Formula 1 bearings in the Renault R30
Jenson Button smiles for the assembled photographers - and for the one on the roof of the pits. His McLaren MP4-25 spends a goodly chunk of the day in its garage. What remains is spent chasing the fleeing Alonso
Out on the track, Button and Alonso provide some brief entertainment for the fans as Alonso catches the McLaren quickly during a long run - but it doesn't last long before the Spaniard ducks into the pits
Tuesday: After much build-up, Lewis Hamilton emerges from his team's garage for the first time in the new McLaren-Mercedes MP4-25
Japanese driver Kamui Kobayashi arrives to begin testing with Sauber, a team he joined in December after a short but successful spell with Toyota
Out on the track, Felipe Massa continues to look good after his return from injury and posts the fastest lap time of the morning session (one minute 11.722 seconds) in his Ferrari
Kobayashi continues his team-mate Pedro de la Rosa's good showing on Monday with a time of 1:12.056 in front of an appreciative crowd at the Spanish track
Hamilton is third fastest after the day's testing and declares himself happy with the feel of the new car, an improvement on last year
His McLaren team-mate Jenson Button, the reigning world champion, arrives at the track to survey proceedings ahead of his turn in the car on Wednesday
Having been outpaced by new team-mate Michael Schumacher on Monday, Nico Rosberg attempts to impress on day two in his Mercedes and does record a better time of 1m12.899
With Massa continuing to test the Ferrari, local favourite Fernando Alonso also puts in an appearance ahead of his time behind the wheel on Wednesday
Monday: Michael Schumacher perches on the front tyre of his new drive, alongside team-mate Nico Rosberg, as Mercedes launch their 2010 car in Valencia
The 41-year-old Schumacher, whose last competitive Formula 1 race was in 2006, takes a novel "air-camera" approach to photographers as the teams gather for their first day of winter testing ahead of the 2010 season, which begins in Bahrain on 12 March
A short distance away, Toro Rosso's Jaime Alguersuari (left) and Sebastien Buemi lift the wraps on their 2010 model at the first of four three-day testing sessions which will take place this month
But the focus at the Ricardo Tormo track is on the big names, and Ferrari's Felipe Massa is among the drivers catching the eye on his return from an accident in qualifying at the Hungarian Grand Prix last July
F1 legend Keke Rosberg is on hand to watch son Nico set the third fastest time of the morning session in the new Mercedes, despite not being comfortable in the car
But Rosberg's time is quickly beaten by Schumacher when he takes to the track in the improved conditions in the afternoon - the seven-time world champion set the third fastest time of the day
A new-look Renault team are also at the test with new driver Robert Kubica, a new car and a new boss, as they try to rebuild after a nightmare 2009, when they were uncompetitive and found guilty of fixing the 2008 Singapore GP
It's a big day for Toro Rosso, who put a car they have designed themselves on track for the first time, after cutting the cord with parent team Red Bull. Sebastien Buemi is the first to drive the new car
Unusually for a first day's testing, only one car stops on the track - and it is Williams driver Rubens Barrichello who is the unlucky driver
