World champion Jenson Button has revealed he will drive a McLaren for the first time on 3 February at the first winter test in Valencia - the day after his team-mate Lewis Hamilton. Pedro de la Rosa, who had been linked with a move to Sauber, will give the MP4-25 its first run-out on 1 February.

Nico Rosberg will give the new Mercedes its debut in Valencia on 1 February instead of team-mate and seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher.

Mercedes team boss Ross Brawn has said if he had to bet on who would be 2010 world champion he would put his money on Michael Schumacher - although he thinks the German will need more than one race to clinch his first victory.

Ferrari reserve driver Giancarlo Fisichella is set to fill the second Sauber seat alongside Kamui Kobayashi after he was spotted at the Swiss team's Hinwil base last week. The deal would suit Ferrari, who are supplying engines to Sauber, because it would mean the 35-year-old Italian would stay racing fit.

Former Renault boss Flavio Briatore intends to sue the FIA for loss of income from his driver management business after motorsport's governing body handed him a lifetime ban from Formula 1. The ban was overturned by the French high court this month but the FIA plans to launch an appeal.

Felipe Massa won a head-to-head race with his new Ferrari team-mate Fernando Alonso driving Fiats on ice in Madonna di Campiglio. The battle was decided at the final corner when Alonso went into the side of Massa as he tried to overtake.

There will be no re-tuning of the engines competing in Formula 1 this season, after extensive discussions on ways of equalising engines drew a blank. The Mercedes, Ferrari and Renault engines will all be as they were in 2009.
