A Formula 1 fan assesses the changeable weather conditions at the Hungaroring as the third and final practice season gets under way ahead of the real business of qualifying
Controversially making his F1 debut of the age of 19 at the Hungarian Grand Prix, Jaime Alguersuari gets ready to go out in his Toro Rosso for the third practice session
Winner of two grands prix in 2009, Red Bull's Sebastian Vettel can only manage the 10th quickest time in the third practice session - although his car's fuel loads are unknown
Finishing nearly four tenths of a second quicker than second-placed Nick Heidfeld, Lewis Hamilton continues his good form by recording the quickest fastest lap in third practice as qualifying looms
Championship leader Jenson Button ahead of qualifying. Without a podium finish in the past two races, the 29-year-old Englishman will be praying that his Brawn car is more responsive and grippy around the Hungaroring
Considered by some a dark horse for a podium finish in Hungary, Renault's gifted two-time world champion Fernando Alonso leaves it late but cruises through qualifying session one in sixth position
There is disappointment for debutant Alguersuari, who has a mechanical problem with his Toro Rosso and will start his maiden Grand Prix at the back of the grid
The second session is overshadowed by a worrying crash involving Ferrari's Felipe Massa, who is struck by a piece of debris and drives straight into a tyre wall
The top-10 shoot-out is delayed as Massa is treated by the on-site doctors before being taken to hospital by helicopter. Ferrari describe his condition as "stable"
A concerned Rubens Barrichello heads to the medical centre to see his fellow Brazilian. It later emerges that part of Barrichello's rear suspension had fallen off and hit Massa on the helmet
Barrichello does not qualify for the top-10 shoot-out, and Brawn spend much of the final session checking Button's car for any similar suspension problems
Button only has time for two flying laps in the third session and has to settle for eighth on the grid as Alonso springs a surprise by snatching pole position...
...Not that Alonso knows it. A timing failure means the Spaniard has to ask the other drivers what their times were before establishing that he will sit on pole
Alonso eventually finds out the good news and celebrates his first pole of the season ahead of the Red Bulls of Sebastian Vettel (left) and Mark Webber
