Massa looked impressive as Ferrari finally got up to speed with their rivals |
Championship leader Jenson Button has warned that Ferrari are the team to watch after a much-improved performance from them in Barcelona. Felipe Massa secured fourth on the grid on Saturday - Ferrari's best qualifying result this campaign - following a host of improvements to their F60 car. And Brawn GP's Button said: "Ferrari are closing very, very quickly. "They've been competitive today [in qualifying] and they're one to watch over the next few races, for sure." A tactical error saw Massa's team-mate Kimi Raikkonen drop out in Q1, when the Finn only ran five laps and then sat in the paddock thinking he had done enough - only to be edged out into 16th on the grid at the death. | 606: DEBATE |
However, the Ferraris' improved pace has been evident throughout the weekend, and Brazilian Massa sprang a surprise in final practice by posting the fastest time - 1:20.533. He then finished within two tenths of Button's team-mate Rubens Barrichello in qualifying, and Button believes it is a sign of things to come from a Ferrari sporting a new aerodynamic package that includes a new diffuser, sidepods, revised front suspension and tweaked front wing. "I don't know that anyone has really gone that much quicker this weekend except for Ferrari," said the Briton. "I think we have legs on them at the moment... [but] if you had the classification of the improvements, probably Ferrari would be at the top of the list because they have done a good job. I'm surprised."
