By Sarah Holt

1405: So that's a fourth pole of the season for Hamilton and he will be a strong favourite to convert that into victory in Hungary. Hamilton won at Hungaroring on his debut season in 2007 amidst a tense team atmosphere at McLaren but it looks like plain sailing for the Englishman this time around.

1405: "Hamilton really is on the case here. Hamilton and McLaren are really working well."
BBC Radio 5 Live analyst Maurice Hamilton

1401: Hamilton goes faster through each of the sections at the Hungaroring and lays down his fastest lap so far in 1:20.899 to capture his second pole in a row. McLaren wrap up the one-two as Heikki Kovalainen takes second with Ferrari's Felipe Massa third. BMW Sauber's Robert Kubica is fourth ahead of Toyota's Timo Glock, who lines up on the third row alongside Ferrari's Kimi Raikkonen.

1359: Kubica clocks the second fastest time of 1:21.326 but Hamilton is still out on track and going even faster.

1359: The round of pit-stops mean Massa will now be the last man out on a flying lap so pole is his to win or lose for Ferrari.

1357: Hamilton is back in the pits putting on some fresh tyres after setting the fastest lap of 1:20.974. He's on the harder of the two tyres available which appear to be working best.

1355: Hamilton is expected to repeat his German feat by recording the last lap of the season - so expect another late push for pole. All 10 drivers are out on the track now.

1353: The first time of the session is set by a raring-to-go Glock in 1:21.326. He's just faster than his team-mate Trulli.

1350: With overtaking super difficult at the Hungaroring, qualifying as high up the grid as possible is extremely important. Both Toyotas set about the task straight away as they are the first to emerge from the pits and are on the hard tyres.

1349: "Anyone else feel that Hamilton is unstoppable? Short of mechanical or electrical defects he is the best driver in the best car!"
Jon in Plymouth via text

Brits Down
1343: Button is the last man to cross the line in the second session. He sets a personal best time at the Hungaroring but it's not enough to pull himself into the top 10 and he goes out. Also out are Rosberg, Bourdais, Coulthard and Vettel.

1341: Rosberg gets out of his car and sits on the pit wall. That's his session over then - and the culprit is a hydraulics problem.

1339: OK let's look at our friends in the drop zone. With three minutes left to go, Rosberg (again), Bourdais, Button, Piquet and Coulthard are in trouble. You have to think that a couple of those will try and haul themselves into the top 10.

1335: Massa takes over at the top as he clockes 1:19.068 on the harder tyres.

1334: Hamilton looks like he has a hefty glug on fuel on board as he settles for a hot lap of 1:19.473 to nestle behind Glock.

1332: Glock sets the pace in Q2 with a time of 1.19.246. Meanwhile, Radio 5 Live's pit-lane report Holly Samos says Heidfeld is "a very angry man" as he storms past the media and into BMW Sauber's motor home. The team say the incident is under investigation by the race stewards.

1330: Second session is go. Glock is the first man out on the track following by the ever-impervious Raikkonen.

1329: "Stuck at work since 8am waiting for the qualifying. I just hope my manager doesn't catch me pressin f5 every 2 minutes. My money is on Hamilton."

1326: We're almost ready for the second session in Hungary. To update you on the Heidfeld situation, he got caught up behind Bourdais but the Toro Rosso man was also being slowed by a car in front of him so Heidfeld may get no joy from the officials.

Brits Up
1320: Rosberg pulls himself out of the danger zone and up into 14th but his Williams team-mate Nakajima fails to go through. Heidfeld is also out in 16th place - and there may be a protest from BMW Sauber as he appeared to be blocked by traffic on his final flying lap. Barrichello (Honda), Fisichella and Sutil (both Force India) also fail to go through to the next session. But there's good news for Jenson Button as his final hot lap sneaks him through in 15th place while Hamilton is sitting comfortably at the top.

1318: Massa tussles with his car, trying to squeeze some extra speed out of the Ferrari around the Hungaroring. He does enough to pop up to second but is still 0.2secs adrift of pacesetter Hamilton.

1315: Both BMW Saubers are being sent out again to try and record better times while Rosberg, who apparently made a mistake on his last flying lap, is also being ushered out again to try and pull him out of the drop zone.

1312: Eight minutes left to go and I'll say one more thing about the tyres - Hamilton and Raikkonen are both on the harder options while Massa is on the soft option. The bottom five at the minute are BMW Sauber's Heidfeld, Sutil and Fisichella for Force India, Williams' Rosberg and Button in his Honda.

1309: Hamilton lays down a huge benchmark as he goes to the top of the timesheets with a flying lap of 1:19.376. His McLaren team-mate Heikki Kovalainen closely follows him in 1:19.945.

1308: "The track temperature is up to 44C and it does make a difference with the tyres because they will get a lot more punishment and you have to try and make them last for the entire lap. The extra heat will not help the situation."
BBC Radio 5 Live analyst Maurice Hamilton

1306: Jenson Button is out on the track for Honda on the super soft tyres as just eight cars have set times so far.

1303: The first lap time of the session goes Vettel's way as he clocks 1:21.464 and David Coulthard is close behind but a touch slower in the Red Bull.

1300: We're all set to go for the first 20-minute session of qualifying. Are you ready? And... the first man out of the pits is Sebastian Vettel for Toro Rosso. He'll be keen to get out early and lay down a decent time after hydraulics problems upset his practice sessions on Friday.

1256: "Hamilton will win qualifying though I think it will be closer than predicted."
GraymeadYNWA on 606

1245: Rain definitely won't play a part in qualifying with temperatures hovering around 29C and up at a very sticky 38C on the Hungaroring track. But a bit of hot, hot heat can cause its own problems too especially when it comes to tyres.

The hot conditions mean more tyre graining which affects grip and makes performance a bit more unpredictable. And that could favour Ferrari as they tend to perform better in warmer temperatures as they don't push their tyres as hard as McLaren.

1240: "Even if Ferrari have made some progress, I still feel they will be behind Mclaren."
Ninad13 on 606

1230: Hello again! I don't know about you but from where I'm sitting it looks like Lewis Hamilton is the red-hot favourite to grab pole in Hungary.

The McLaren man was on top on Friday and managed to eke an extra 0.3 seconds of pace out of his car in final practice.

Hamilton's time of one minute 20.228 secs was 0.339 secs faster than his closet rival Felipe Massa and even though the Ferrari man recorded his best lap of the weekend so far it was still outside Hamilton's flying lap on Friday.

While Hamilton claimed back-to-back victories in Britain and Germany, Ferrari have scored just one podium between them.

The Italian team say they have made technical improvements to their car ahead of Hungary but have they do enough to deny Hamilton pole?
