Spyker will be using Ferrari engines next year |
Super Aguri are ready to fight Formula One rivals Spyker for the services of Dutch test driver Giedo van der Garde. The Japanese team named him for the forthcoming season at the end of 2006 and he even drove in his first test for them in Valencia on Wednesday.
But in a new twist, Dutch-owned Spyker have now announced Van der Garde as one of their four test drivers.
That has sparked furious reaction from Super Aguri who insist Van der Garde is now legitimately contracted to them.
In a statement, they said: "Super Aguri has a valid contract with Giedo van der Garde to drive for the team in the position of Friday and test driver for the 2007 FIA Formula One World Championship.
"The contract was submitted by the SAF1 Team to the Contracts Recognition Board on 23 January 2007."
Along with Van der Garde, Ferrari-powered Spyker have also signed up Malaysian driver Fairuz Fauzy, Spaniard Adrian Valles and German Markus Winkelhock for their testing programme.
The 21-year-old Fauzy had also been expected to sign up with Super Aguri.
Dutchman Christijan Albers and German Adrian Sutil will be Spyker's two race drivers.
