Not even Michael Schumacher's success could fill Hockenheim |
Nurburgring and Hockenheim are to alternate hosting the German Grand Prix for the next four years. Hockenheim will stage the 2008 and 2010 races, with Nurburgring having it in 2007 and 2009.
For the last 11 years Germany has had two Grands Prix but crowds which were already falling are expected to drop further when Michael Schumacher quits.
Debt-ridden Hockenheim was favourite for the axe after the German-hosted European Grand Prix was dropped.
