Ferrari team president Luca di Montezemolo has asked Formula One chief Bernie Ecclestone to restore the San Marino Grand Prix to the 2007 calendar. Its Imola home is the closest Grand Prix circuit to Ferrari's headquarters.
"I told Ecclestone that for us it is very important that Imola remains," di Montezemolo said.
"He gave me plenty of understanding and I want to ask the Prime Minister what can be done as there is a problem of economic investment and modernisation."
Di Montezemolo added: "I am still confident. For Italian motor racing, for Ferrari, for Italy and for the region of Emilia-Romagna, Imola is important."
The European Grand Prix has also been dropped from next year's list - reducing the season to 17 races.
