Coulthard showed all his experience to come through |
David Coulthard was delighted with his buccaneering drive from the back of the grid at the Canadian Grand Prix. Coulthard overtook compatriot Jenson Button at the death to snatch a point in a race dominated by Fernando Alonso.
Coulthard said: "It was excellent to get a point from the back of the grid. That was the most difficult Canadian Grand Prix I've ever done.
"It's always hot here and you always get a cramp in your left foot because of all the braking areas."
Coulthard had snaked through a field thinned by several crashes, with loose rubber from the cars' tyres making it increasingly hard to hold a line round the tighter corners.
It was on one of these that Coulthard nipped inside Button to steal eighth place.
He said: "The hairpin was so difficult with the debris from the tyres.

"If you got one inch off line it sucked you in, and that's what happened to Jenson."
Button also struggled with the testing race conditions in Montreal but revealed more technical difficulties with his Honda were the main reason behind his poor performance.
"It was so difficult to drive, we have massive issues with locking at the rears under braking," said Button.
"I just couldn't slow the car down at the corners. Even if I braked really early the rears would lock.
"The stability of the car was really bad. It cost us massive amounts of time and is very disappointing."
The 26-year-old has now finished out of the points for the second consecutive race.
Coulthard earned his third points-finish of the season after being demoted to the back of the grid following an unscheduled engine change before the race.
