European Grand Prix, Sunday 7 May, 1300 BST Button wants to add to his single podium of the season in Germany |
Jenson Button is hopeful Honda have finally got their race tactics right - even if it is at the expense of a sluggish performance in qualifying. The Briton has not started lower than third on the grid all season but will begin the European Grand Prix in sixth.
"I just didn't feel confident in the car," said Button. "I couldn't get the lap out of it.
"But hopefully this is a set-up that will work in the race. If we have a faultless day we will get a result."
Button's frustration throughout the three qualifying sessions was clear and, even after he changed his tyres, he never really got his Honda flying round the Nurburgring.
The 26-year-old was beaten by team-mate Rubens Barrichello, who finished fourth, for the first time this season.
Despite his below-par performance, Button is certain his struggle to convert promising qualifying positions into podium spots is behind him.
"Our race pace has not been as quick as the Renaults so we had to do something about that and we have," Button said.
"But Sunday is the important day, qualifying is just putting yourself in a better position for the race."
