Fisichella won the opening race of the 2005 Championship |
Renault have apologised to Giancarlo Fisichella for failing to provide him with a competitive drive in Sunday's Formula One Grand Prix in Bahrain. Engine problems from qualifying were not rectified and he was forced to pull out of the race after 21 laps.
"We have apologised to him for what happened yesterday," engineering head Pat Symonds told the team website.
"His performance was compromised. In fact he drove an excellent race, but he was halted by an hydraulic leak."
During the race, Fisichella made his feelings known to the pit-lane team over the radio, as defending champion and Renault team-mate Fernando Alonso went on to win the race.
"Last year I had a lot of bad luck but starting this year like this is not great," said the Italian.
