Crash spoils Coulthard landmark
David Coulthard
Coulthard will become the eighth driver to join F1's 200 race club
David Coulthard was left distraught after a crash put him down in 21st on the grid for his 200th Grand Prix race.

Coulthard paid the price in qualifying at the Spanish Grand Prix as his Red Bull spun out of action at turn three.

"Something failed at the rear of the car and it just went away from me," said the 35-year-old Scot.

"I'm really fed up as I think we were in really good shape this morning, but we just need to take it on the chin and see what we can do in the race."

Coulthard, who will become just the eighth driver to join Formula One's 200 club, was unable to set a lap time as his car bounced through the gravel and slammed into tyre barriers in the first qualifying session on Saturday.

"There was failure on the car," he said. "Turn three is not a difficult corner, even when you're flat out, and I was on an out lap and not pushing hard at all."

The Red Bull driver avoided last place on the grid because of Jacques Villeneuve's 10-place penalty for an unscheduled engine change.

Villeneuve needed a new engine in his BMW Sauber after his original was damaged in transit and had to settle for 22nd despite finishing 14th.
