Juan Pablo Montoya took some blame as McLaren failed to capitalise on their advantage at the German Grand Prix. The Colombian impressively worked his way to second from the back of the grid after crashing in qualifying as Kimi Raikkonen retired from the lead.
"It's frustrating because we should have won the race but I made a mistake in qualifying," said Montoya.
"I didn't apologise yesterday but I want to apologise now. I came up to second so it's not so bad."
Montoya said he had crashed on his qualifying lap as he was trying to take pole from Raikkonen.
"I had a little bit more fuel than Kimi and I wanted to be on pole," Montoya said.

"I knew his lap wasn't great and if I did a good lap I could be on pole. I did a good lap, but I couldn't finish it."
Montoya made amends by weaving his way from the back of the grid to finish behind winner Alonso.
He was up to 11th after the first lap and then closed up to Michael Schumacher and Jenson Button, who were battling for second place.
Montoya admitted he was concerned when the Englishman passed Schumacher with a lap and a half to go before his pit stop, but he comfortably managed to rejoin ahead of the BAR.
"I saved fuel when I was behind people and then pushed when I had clear air," said Montoya.
