Newey is an acclaimed leader in the field of aerodynamics |
McLaren technical director Adrian Newey has shelved plans to take a break from Formula One and will remain with the team for the 2006 season. Newey, one of the most highly-regarded car designers in the sport, had spoken about developing other interests.
But the 46-year-old has now decided to stay beyond his current contract, which reportedly expires in January.
"I had intended to have a rest, but for the moment this step can wait," he said. "I will be at McLaren in 2006."
Newey designed a string of winning cars with Williams in the early 1990s before moving to McLaren in 1997 and helping them win more championships. They are currently second in the constructors' championship, 15 points behind Renault with eight races to go.
