1350: Button might have seen pole snatched from his hand but the British BAR driver is still pleased to be starting on the front row of the grid with Alonso for Sunday's Grand Prix.

Raikkonen has to settle for 12th, despite clocking the second-best time in qualifying, because of his 10-place penalty.

1347: It is more disappointment for Raikkonen after his engine failure on Saturday morning as the Finn's lead time is snatched away by Championship leader Fernando Alonso, who clocks 1:19.905.

1345:Button's pole is short-lived as Raikkonen, determined to make up for engine failure earlier on Friday, soars to the top of qualifying with 1:19.932. Michael Schumacher also has a chance to steal pole but slumps to a time of 1:21.275 to finish well down the grid.

1342: Jenson Button steals pole from Montoya, much to the delight of the home crowd, with a blistering pace of 1:20.207.

1339: Giancarlo Fisichella is rueing a missed opportunity after letting top qualifying position slip away in the final quarter of the circuit. The Italian looked on course to topple Montoya's lead time but poor handling at the end see him slip to third with 1:21.010.

1330: Rubens Barrichello is the first of the Ferrari drivers out on the Silverstone circuit and makes a superb start. But a messy finish means the Brazilian falls just short of Montoya's pace time.

1325: David Coulthard records a competitive lap at Silverstone to split up the Williams drivers with 1:22.108

The Finn will be penalised 10 places on the grid for the second successive Grand Prix after enduring the same fate at Magny-Cours last week.
