Silverstone makes safety pledge

Organisers insist security measures at Silverstone are very strict
British Grand Prix organisers say fans visiting Silverstone will be safe in the wake of the London bomb attacks.

"Silverstone has a well-established set of security measures in place that have been agreed and planned in detail," said a statement from race organisers.

"Silverstone is confident that these measures are adequate to ensure the safety of all attending."

Sunday's British GP is a traditional race on the schedule and has been run every year since F1 started in 1950.

A minute's silence will be held before the race, which is expected to attract a sell-out crowd of 100,000.

British Racing Drivers' Club president Sir Jackie Stewart has also confirmed that all proceeds raised from Sunday's post-race concert within the circuit complex will be offered to any fund set up for the victims' families.

"We feel it is only right we do something at this tragic time and we will be hoping the fans that attend the free concert give something to help out," said Stewart.
