Fisichella targets Monaco victory

Giancarlo Fisichella hopes that the unique Monaco track will provide him with an opportunity to eclipse team-mate Fernando Alonso this weekend.

The Italian, who has finished second and third in the Monaco Grand Prix, is keen to add to his victory in Australia in the opening race of this season.

"I love the sensation of driving through the streets at Monaco and really pushing to the limit," he said.

"In the past I have gone well there and it should be the same this year."

Jarno Trulli won for Renault in last year's race at Monaco, and the team have been in excellent form again this season.

Only McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen in the last round at Barcelona has denied them victory in the opening five rounds of the championship.

Following his three wins, Alonso has a lead of 18 points over Trulli's Toyota, while Fisichella ended a run of three retirements after Australia with a fifth place in Spain.

"I am in the right place in first qualifying, near the end of the session when track conditions will be best, and that means I can fight for a good grid position, which is so important at Monaco," Fisichella explained.

Alonso believes that Sunday's race will be a much closer affair than when Raikkonen won in Spain, and his car experienced technical problems.

"I don't think that race gave a representative picture of the difference between our cars, because Kimi was able to pull away too easily in the first stint as I was struggling with the car," he said.
