Wurz produced an impressive display at the San Marino Grand Prix |
McLaren stand-in driver Alexander Wurz escaped unhurt after suffering a massive crash in testing. The Austrian test driver crashed at the fastest part of the Le Castellet circuit in southern France where speeds can reach 270kph.
"Alex was taken to the medical centre for checks where he was given the all clear," said a McLaren statement.
"As a result of the accident, all the teams present at the circuit then used a different track configuration."
McLaren, who say that the car was beyond repair, are still investigating the cause of the incident.
Wurz replaced the injured Juan Pablo Montoya for the San Marino Grand Prix and finished fourth but was elevated to third after Jenson Button was stripped of his podium place.
