Renault's technical director says they are happy with the development of next year's new V8 engine despite falling behind some of their rivals in testing. Rule changes mean the V10s which helped driver Fernando Alonso and the team win their respective titles in 2005 must be replaced by smaller engines next year.
"Some rivals are already running a V8 engine on track," said Bob Bell.
"We don't know what constraints they're operating under. We're confident we have the correct answer for our team."
Renault are some way behind rival teams such as Toyota and Ferrari in testing the new capacity engines.
But engine boss Rob White is confident that development of Renault's new engine is going according to plan.
"The entire team is focused on arriving at the first race in Bahrain as well prepared as possible," he said.
"We have accelerated our work to hit our performance and reliability milestones. There is still a lot of work to do, but we are on target."
