Fernando Alonso is embraced by Renault boss Flavio Briatore |
Renault chief Flavio Briatore expects Ferrari to come back strongly at the San Marino Grand Prix later this month. Ferrari failed to score a point in Bahrain and trail Renault by 25 points in the constructors' championship.
"We know Ferrari will mount a fightback in the next race, but this is what we expect," said Briatore after Fernando Alonso made it three wins for the team.
"It was easy for us to win in Bahrain and now we have to make sure we stay where we are."
But Renault technical chief Pat Symonds insisted the team was taking nothing for granted yet.
"This year, to be honest, the cars that we have been leading the races with have not had to run at full speed so we have something in hand," he said.
"While every race might be worth the same number of points there is no doubt that if you get a good start it gives everything impetus.
"Good results at the start of the season are probably worth more than those at the end, and you have to say we have had a very good start."
