Nick Heidfeld came third in Malaysia |
Sir Frank Williams has said he is surprised by Nick Heidfeld's good form for Williams this season. The German driver, a last minute appointment for Williams, was third in the Malaysian Grand Prix last week.
"I was more than surprised at Nick's performance in Malaysia. Nick is very serious about his career, hard work seems to appeal to him," he said.
Heidfeld's team-mate Mark Webber was on course for the podium in Malaysia, but was knocked off the track mid-race.
Williams said that Heidfeld's input during testing was vital.
"Our engineers find his technical interest and feedback hugely valuable.
"It has unquestionably helped him to understand his car in the past two races.
"On Sunday, we saw a very good racing driver operating at the highest level and we are very much looking forward to seeing Nick on the podium many more times this season," he added.
