Formula One is introducing new technology to please the fans |
A radical rear wing concept that could lead to more overtaking in Formula One has been unveiled by the International Automobile Federation (FIA). The Centreline Downwash Generating Wing eliminates the existing single rear wing and replaces it with two box-like wings, one behind each rear wheel.
The wings create a wake so following cars have more downforce and less drag.
An FIA statement said: "With the support of the teams it may be possible to introduce these changes by 2007."
A recent survey commissioned by the FIA found that 94% of fans wanted to see more overtaking in Formula One.
And FIA president Max Mosley said: "By introducing the CDG wing we can give fans exactly what they have asked for.
