Alonso said he felt in control throughout the weekend

The Spaniard beat Kimi Raikkonen to claim victory in Shanghai and help Renault claim their first constructors' title ahead of close rivals McLaren.

"It was probably the easiest race of the year," said the 24-year-old Alonso.

"We had a bit of oversteer and we dropped a bit of front wing at the first pit stop, but apart from that the car was perfect."

He added: "For us it was a good season all through the year. We showed here if we want to take a little more risk, if we want to beat McLaren, we can do it."

Raikkonen had a frustrating time in China but congratulated Renault on their title.

"The car was not quick enough at the start of the race," said the Finn. "In the end it was perfect. Unfortunately it came 40 laps too late.

"I did my best but it wasn't enough and the Renault was too quick, so all the compliments for them. Next year we try again."

Raikkonen's team-mate Juan-Pablo Montoya was forced out when a drain cover punctured his radiator.

"I saw the cover a little bit the lap before - it was out of place - and then next lap I came round and it was sticking up," said Raikkonen.

"I missed it and I guess he ran a little wider and hit it so it was unfortunate for him and the team, but in the end I don't think it would have made any difference to the championship."
