An emotional Ron Dennis described Kimi Raikkonen's Japanese Grand Prix victory as the Finn's "best race ever". Raikkonen overtook Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella on the final lap after starting from 17th on the grid.
After the race McLaren chief Dennis was so choked he found it hard to speak but he said: "Nothing should take anything away from Kimi but it was a team job.
"I think it was his best race ever and it puts us back in contention for the constructors'."
Dennis was also full of praise for McLaren's strategists, who he said did a "fantastic job".
"When you qualify so badly and the circumstances are as they were you really have to dig deep to find the best solution every single lap," he said.
But Dennis would not be drawn on the crash that put Juan Pablo Montoya out of the race on the first lap to dent McLaren's hopes for the constructors' championship.
"You have to forget about the crash," he said. "The stewards will decide."
