1257: Juan Pablo Montoya grabs his 12th pole and ensures a McLaren one-two on the starting grid for the Belgian Grand Prix on Sunday. Fisichella is third fastest but, because of an earlier engine change, suffers a 10-place penalty.

1255: Fernando Alonso fails to trouble Raikkonen's time, slotting behind Trulli's Toyota with 1:46.760.

1250: Kimi Raikkonen keeps his world title hopes alive by claiming provisional pole with fanatastic final sector, but Renault's Giancarlo Fisichella, lose 10 places on the starting grid after an engine change, is 0.057 seconds slower.

1248: Jarno Trulli becomes the first driver in qualifying to break the 1:47-mark, clocking under 47 seconds in the middle sector to grab provisional pole with 1:46.596.

1241: Ralf Schumacher clocks up superb first and final sector times to pip brother Michael at the top of the standings with 1:47.401 but fellow Williams driver Antonio Pizzonia can only muster 1:48.898 to slot in below Jacques Villeneuve in 10th.

1236: Felipe Massa notches up the fastest final sector of qualifying but still finishes 0.391 slower than Schumacher.

1232: Michael Schumacher pushes his Ferrari in the middle and final sector to claim provisional pole with a new fastest lap of 1:47.476.

1219: Williams driver Mark Webber is 0.282 faster than Sato to set the new pace but Red Bull's Christian Klein has to settle for fourth behind team-mate Coulthard after clocking 1:48.994.

1216: David Coulthard is next out for Red Bull but finishes 0.155secs slower than Sato.

1213: The first BAR driver out on the the track, Takuma Sato, grabs provisional pole with 1:48.353.

1210: Tiago Monteiro takes the other Jordan around the track but his time of 1:51.498 is only enough to slot behind the two Minardis and in front of team-mate Karthikeyan as Jordan have clearly kitted their cars out for wet weather.

1206: The Minardis of Christijan Albers and Robert Doornbos easily surpass Karthikeyan's time by two seconds. with Doornbos temperarily setting the pace at 1:49.779.

1202: Karthikeyan clocks up the first qualifying mark of the day with a slow and steady mark of 1:51.675.

1200 BST: Jordan's Narain Karthikeyan is out on the track as qualifying for the Belgian Grand Prix begins at Spa.

Renault's Fernando Alonso broke McLaren's dominance at Spa-Francorchamps on Saturday morning when he set the fastest time of the weekend so far in final practice.

Alonso clocked a best lap of one minute 46.307 seconds, beating McLaren rival Kimi Raikkonen by 0.334secs.

But the 24-year-old's hopes of wrapping up the world title this weekend suffered a blow when it was confirmed team-mate Giancarlo Fisichella would lose 10 places on the starting grid after an engine change.

Alonso can become Formula One's youngest world champion if he beats Raikkonen by four points at Spa on Sunday.
