Giancarlo Fisichella and Fernando Alonso eye up the new car

Faure demanded at the launch of their new car that Renault step up a level after scoring just one win in 2004.

"This season we must take regular race wins. No longer will we be satisfied to be regular podium finishers," he said.

"Since our return to F1 in 2002 we have set ambitious objectives and each time we have achieved them. I believe we can deliver on our promises again."

Faure said he believed the driver pairing of Fernando Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella was ideal for the team's high ambitions.

He described the partnership of Alonso, one of the sport's brightest young stars, and the highly experienced Fisichella as being "perfectly balanced".

"Fernando will reach his peak this year while Giancarlo is at the top of his game," Faure said.

"He is quick and most importantly a finisher, which is a key factor. Being able to fight for the world title means systematically collecting points with two cars.

"Everything is now in place for us to move up to the next level."

Jarno Trulli, who Fisichella has replaced, scored Renault's one win last year in Monaco. The team finished third in the constructor standings behind Ferrari and BAR.
