Button is chasing a first GP win |
Jenson Button is convinced BAR are in a "strong position" after testing their 2005 car for the first time this week. The BAR 007, smaller and lighter than its predecessor, had its first testing sessions in Valencia and Button is eager for more ahead of the new season.
"It's been a good week and testing has gone pretty smoothly," said Button.
"We mainly concentrated on running tyre comparisons and set-up work. There is still a lot of work to do but we are heading in the right direction."
Button is impressed by how quickly the new machine has got up to pace.
The car incorporates aerodynamic changes to comply with new rules and a redesigned engine to cope with having to last for two races.
"The times are good compared to the concept car and it's nice to be in a strong position after only two days of testing," he added.
"I can't wait to get back into the car next week."
BAR are hoping the new car will help them build on last season, when they finished second behind Ferrari in the constructors' standings, and secured four second-place finishes for Button.
