Michelin officials were worried their tyres could suddenly fail

Seven teams withdrew from the US Grand Prix because of safety concerns over tyres made by the French firm.

The promoters of the French GP revealed they had received guarantees that the problems which dogged Michelin would not happen at Magny-Cours on 3 July.

Michelin advised the teams not to race at Indianapolis after tyre failure caused two crashes in free practice.

British Grand Prix organisers, whose race follows on from France on 10 July, said they were also confident there would be no problems at Silverstone.

"The configuration of the circuit does not place the tyres under the pressure levels they had to withstand in Indianapolis," said British Racing Drivers' Club chief executive Alex Hooton.

"The banked corners are a feature of the Indianapolis circuit and are a one-off in Formula One.

"The problems that arose as a direct result of the banking at turn 13 should not be experienced at any other circuit."

He added: "The teams are fully prepared, so it's inconceivable that we will see a repeat of events from the weekend."

Michelin's future in Formula One has come under scrutiny following Sunday's events in the United States.

They have apologised for providing unsuitable tyres but have vowed to remain in F1 despite the controversy.

"We are convinced our decision was a professional one in line with our policy of 100% safety," said a statement.
