Schumacher's pursuers were closer in Germany than for some time

"I think it is impossible," he said after Sunday's event, when asked if he could win 17 of this year's 18 races.

McLaren's David Coulthard said his team would be able to end Schumacher's run.

"They are not going to win them all, just most of them. There are going to be certain times where we can beat them," the Scot said.

"If we get track position in Budapest (the next race), it could be there. But there's no reason why the Ferrari won't work around Budapest other than that they had problems there last year."

Raikkonen rues lost chance

Coulthard's team-mate Kimi Raikkonen was right behind Schumacher when his car suffered rear wing failure at the start of lap 14.

And Coulthard added that BAR had missed an opportunity to beat Schumacher in Germany.

An engine failure on Jenson Button's car meant the Englishman was demoted 10 places to 13th on the grid, yet he fought back up to second place by the end of the race.

"Jenson missed an opportunity this weekend," said Coulthard. "He had a car that was quick enough to be on the pole.

"I think he could have genuinely taken the race to Michael and beaten him."

Button added: "It is difficult to know where we stand. I know we have some new parts that maybe we will use in Hungary that will help us and I think that we have made the correct tyre choice for Hungary.

Button hails 'best drive'

"I think that we have to be quietly confident that we can have a good race."

Schumacher said he had been impressed by the pace of both Raikkonen and Button.

The world champion said Raikkonen was a "big threat" and "very quick", adding that Button was "quite quick".

Renault driver Fernando Alonso, who was third in Germany after a race-long battle with Button, said he felt that he would also be strong in Hungary.

"We have my two favourite tracks coming now, Hungary and Spa," said the Spaniard.

"I think Hungary will suit our car, Spa as well, and we will go for the podium or victory if we have the possibility."
