Team boss David Richards called BAR's season "monumental" after the Formula One outfit all but clinched second spot in the constructors' championship. Renault must record at least a win and a third place with BAR not scoring at the final Grand Prix of the season in Brazil to beat BAR to second overall.
"It's a pretty tall order (for Renault) but we won't give up until the end," said Richards.
Jenson Button and Takuma Sato finished third and fourth in Japan on Sunday.
Fernando Alonso was the only Renault driver to score, earning four points with his fifth place.
"It's been a monumental year for everyone at the team," said Richards, who praised Sato's performance at his home Grand Prix.
"He drove a perfect race. He didn't put a foot wrong," he said.
