Toyota team boss Tsutomu Tomita had nothing but praise for Jarno Trulli after his debut for the team at the Japanese Grand Prix.

The Italian driver out-performed team-mate Olivier Panis at Suzuka, managing to qualify sixth on the grid before finishing 11th in Sunday's race proper.

"I am impressed with how easily Jarno has settled into Toyota," said Tomita.

Trulli said: "There are only positives to take from the weekend. I don't think we could have achieved anything more."

Trulli signed to drive for Toyota for 2005 but was drafted in for the last two races of this season after being dropped by Renault.

"It was a hard debut for him but I think we have worked well together as a team," Tomita added.

"I think it was always going to be a difficult race for us."

Panis, driving in what was almost certainly the final Grand Prix of his career, finished 14th.
