Jaguar boss Tony Purnell is confident that a buyer can be found for the outfit following Ford's decision to quit the sport and sell the team. "There's been masses of interest and we're separating the realistic buyers from the chancers," he said.
"I think one's got to be fairly confident a solution will be found."
Purnell, once linked with a bid himself, said he was hopeful a deal could be agreed by 15 November, the deadline for entries for 2005.
If no buyer is found, Ford will close down the team.
Purnell declined to name any of the potential suitors, but said they would have to prove they have the resources to make the team competitive in the sport.
"It's not so much a case of a rich man buying it, it's more a case of the rich man needing some manufacturer support as well," he said.
"If an independent comes in with a manufacturer behind them, then it's good. It's difficult to be competitive without a manufacturer engine."
He added: "The fact is, we're only going to sell to a credible buyer, we will only change ownership to someone able to do the job credibly for two to three years."
