Lap 50: Jarno Trulli also overtakes Juan Pablo Montoya, who clearly has problems.

Lap 49: Jenson Button gets past Montoya, the Williams driver noses back in front but Button finally nails his manouevre.

Lap 45: Ralf Schumacher pits and rejoins in ninth.

Lap 44: Michael Schumacher is slowing - down to 9.3 seconds ahead.

Lap 43: Ferrari complete their stops and have a stanglehold on the race. BAR's Jenson Button is beginning to push Juan Pablo Montoya in third.

Lap 42:Barrichello stops from the lead and rejoins behind team-mate Schumacher.

Lap 41: Michael Schumacher stops from the lead.

Lap 40: Button stops - and takes fourth from Trulli.

Lap 39: Montoya stops from third place and rejoins after 7.4secs as he tries to fend off Trulli and Button.

Lap 38: Trulli and Coulthard both stop.

Lap 37: Sato in sixth place is the first of the leaders to start the final round of pit stops. Alonso takes a further 1.5secs out of Coulthard's advantage.

Lap 36: Trulli and Button are closing relentlessly on Montoya as Alonso cuts Coulthard's advantage down to 5.1secs.

Lap 34: Michael Schumacher is 12.1secs ahead of Barrichello. The Brazilian is 11secs ahead of Montoya, who is just over three seconds clear of Trulli. Alonso is just over seven seconds behind Coulthard's seventh-placed McLaren and lapping nearly a second quicker.

Lap 33: Sato passes Coulthard with a dive down the inside of the first corner, and then around the outside of the second turn. It is the same move that Ralf Schumacher tried to pull on Sato earlier, but unlike Schumacher Sato gives Coulthard enough room and they both race on.

Lap 32: With the Ferraris serene at the front, Sato is beginning to pressure Coulthard for sixth place.

Lap 31: Alonso finally passes the Jaguar down into the first corner.

Lap 30: Alonso waves angrily at Webber as the Jaguar driver appears to move dangerously on the straight as the Renault was already moving alongside.

Lap 29: Alonso, recovering from his poor qualifying run and lapping quicker than anyone but the Ferraris, is climbing all over the back of Webber's Jaguar for eighth place. Webber appears to lift off the accelerator on the straight to frighten the Spaniard.

Lap 27: Barrichello makes his second stop and rejoins in second place behind Michael Schumacher.

Lap 26: Montoya makes his stop from second place and Button follows him in from fourth place.

Lap 25: Trulli makes his pit stop.

Lap 24: Michael Schumacher comes in for his second stop. Ralf Schumacher makes his stop, but leaves too early while the fuel hose is still attached and knocks over his fuel man.

Lap 23: David Coulthard, running in sixth place, makes his second pit stop and is followed in by Webber in seventh.

Lap 21: Michael Schumacher is comfortable in the lead, 13.9secs ahead of Barrichello, who is 8.5secs clear of Montoya. Behind the Williams, Button in fifth is closing on Trulli in fourth.

Lap 20: Alonso passes Massa at the end of the Bahrain track's middle straight, and Ralf Schumacher squeezes past the Sauber as they climb out of Turn 10.

Lap 19: Alonso is trying hard to take 12th place off Massa as the Renault driver tries to climb up the field from his lowly grid position. Ralf Schumacher is right behind them trying to take advantage of their battle.

Lap 18: Sato runs wide and loses momentum, allowing Button to pass his team-mate. The Japanese now also has a damaged front wing as a result of his trip over the kerbs. Sato pits for a new front wing.

Lap 16: Klien's Jaguar spins in the midst of a battle with the Toyota of Da Matta.

Lap 15: Michael Schumacher extends his lead to 12.1 seconds, with Montoya now more than four seconds behind Barrichello.

Lap 14: The incident between Sato and Ralf Schumacher is to be investigated by the stewards after the race, as will one between Barrichello and Trulli.

After the first round of stops, Michael Schumacher leads team-mate Rubens Barrichello by 11.8 seconds, with Montoya a further 3.8secs adrift.

Lap 12: Button, who is just ahead of Michael Schumacher, makes his first pit stop. The BAR is slightly delayed.

Lap 11: Sato stops from the lead in the BAR.

Lap 10: Montoya and Barrichello stop for fuel and tyres along with Trulli and Fisichella.

Lap nine: Michael Schumacher pulls into the pits for his first stop. Coulthard and Webber also stop, and the McLaren overtakes the Jaguar as they come out of the pits.

Lap eight: Raikkonen suffers a dramatic fire at the back of his McLaren and pulls off the track and out of the race. It looks very like an engine failure, but then so did his retirement in Malaysia and McLaren blamed that on the transmission. It is Raikkonen's third consecutive retirement.

Lap seven: Ralf Schumacher runs off the road after a collision while battling with Sato at Turn Two and drops well down the field. The Williams comes into the pit lane at the end of the lap.

Lap six: Schumacher is more than nine seconds clear of Montoya in third place.

Lap five: Sato is coming under pressure from Ralf Schumacher, who tries to pass at the first corner on lap six. Sato holds him off.

Lap four: Schumacher is more than seven seconds ahead of Montoya in third place.

Lap three: Schumacher is 3.3secs ahead of Barrichello after three consecutive laps.

Lap two: Schumacher already has a 2.7 second lead over Barrichello, who is 1.1secs ahead of Montoya. Raikkonen, who is heavy with a lot of fuel, is up to 14th, but is having a battle with Jaguar rookie Christian Klien.

Lap one: The two Ferraris get away well and lead Montoya into the first corner. Alonso pulls into the pits for a new front wing following a collision.

1230: Michael Schumacher leads the field away on their formation lap. The Minardi of Gianmaria Bruni stalls on the grid and is pushed away.

1225: Kimi Raikkonen chooses to start the race from the back of the grid rather than the pit lane. The Finn did not complete a qualifying lap on Saturday following the imposition of a 10-place grid penalty for an engine change in practice on Friday.

1215: With 15 minutes to go before the start and the cars formed up on the grid, it is spitting with rain every now and again. The track is likely to be quite slippery in the first few laps.

1145: It rained in Bahrain overnight and there were high winds. The forecast is for the weather to dry up, but the circuit conditions will have changed dramatically from qualifying.

If the track is cooler and dustier it could favour Juan Pablo Montoya, who has chosen a softer tyre than the other front-running drivers on Michelins.

However, Ferrari's Bridgestone tyres traditionally work better in cooler weather than the Michelins, so Michael Schumacher looks a strong bet for a third consecutive win this season.
