Ralf Schumacher has won six races for Williams |
Ralf Schumacher would take a pay cut to stay on with Williams after this season, his manager Willi Weber says. Schumacher has been linked with Toyota and Renault amid speculation that he wants more money to stay at Williams.
But Weber said he was working on a performance-related pay deal with Williams for 2005 and beyond.
"The fixed payment (in the new contract) will be reduced. If Ralf gets on the podium or wins, the money increases," Weber told Reuters.
Weber said the performance bonuses in the new contract could mean Schumacher earns in the end the same as he does this year - a reputed 7.5m.
Weber revealed that talks over a new deal had taken place with team owner Frank Williams and would continue.

"It looks very good that we come together (do a deal), it just takes a little bit of time because it's a situation where you cannot say yes or no immediately," he said.
"There's no deadline but Ralf wants to know what is going on," said Weber.
Schumacher has been with the Williams team since 1999 and has won six races in that period.
Weber also denied reports that an agreement had been reached with Renault boss Flavio Briatore "on all major issues" and a finalised contract was a formality.
"I have never spoken to them," he said. "Fact is, I have not spoken with Toyota and Renault about Ralf because again we want to stay in the team.
"Williams are the main choice. We had a small meeting on Saturday (at the Malaysian Grand Prix) and I can say it was very good."
Sources have told BBC Sport that Weber and Toyota are very close to a deal for Schumacher to drive for the Japanese team in 2005.
But Weber said more talks are planned with Williams after next week's Bahrain Grand Prix.
"I don't want to say it's a deadline after Bahrain," Weber said. "Even after Hungary (in August) is enough time. Ralf wants to stay and I think that's the story."
