Asked if he had expected his drivers to dominate as they did in Melbourne, Brawn said: "You never do.

"Even in 2002 when we had such a dominant season we kept expecting things to go wrong. I guess that is what drives us on.

"But there will be lots of twists and turns this season. I think we would be very lucky if we carried on like this."

Michael Schumacher finished 13.6 seconds ahead of team-mate Rubens Barrichello, who was 34.6secs in front of Renault driver Fernando Alonso in third place.

Brawn added: "We're just doing the best we can. It's really up to the others to do what they can to catch us."

Brawn said he did not think Ferrari's domination would last throughout the season.

"I think the tyre war will mean it is up and down," he said. "I'll be amazed if we can repeat what we've done here at ever race."

Ferrari use Bridgestone tyres while their rivals have Michelins.
