Jaguar hope their new R5 car will help them bridge the gap with the leading Formula One outfits this season. The team unveiled both car and new driver Christian Klien in Barcelona on Sunday but admit they are still among F1's minnows.
"We aim to compete with the likes of Toyota, Sauber and BAR this season," said Tony Purnell, boss of Jaguar, who were seventh overall last year.
"I don't think we're ready to go for the front guys."
But he added: "I would like to think we might put a little bit of pressure on them as the season progresses.
"We want to maintain the momentum that we showed last year. But while we have raised our bar everyone else has too."
German Klien has replaced Justin Wilson as Mark Webber's team-mate this season.
"It is going to be tough," admitted Klien, who is still only 20 years old.
"I only know seven of the race tracks so I have a lot to learn. But I feel like an F1 driver now and I'm looking forward to the new season."
