Boost for India F1 bid
F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone
Ecclestone has indicated he would like to see an Indian Grand Prix
India's chance of hosting a Formula One race by 2007 is "pretty good", a senior official involved in the project said on Tuesday.

A team of Indian officials are set to meet F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone in January to confirm the race.

PV Rao, who will lead the team, said: "Discussions are going on and we have to discuss a lot of issues.

"But we are most hopeful. Our chances look pretty good. We are aiming for a race in 2007."

A preliminary meeting was held with Ecclestone earlier this month about plans to bring the event to Hyderabad.

The city has been the front-runner to host an F1 Grand Prix after Ecclestone showed interest intaking the sport to India, Asia's third largest economy.

The government has pledged to provide land to build a track besides a new airport.
