Firman has been suffering from an inner ear imbalance |
Ralph Firman's Formula One future could be under threat, with Jordan reported to be interested in signing Russian teenager Vitaly Petrov for 2004. Jordan have yet to finalise their driver line-up, but are seeking a financial boost and see Petrov as a means to gaining a foothold in the lucrative Russian market.
"My dream is now to get into Formula One," said Petrov.
"It would be fantastic to be the first Russian in the sport."
With Giancarlo Fisichella leaving for Sauber, Jordan have two seats to fill and have also been linked with Allan McNish, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Nick Heidfeld.
Petrov launched his career in the Russian Lada Championship where he won every race before progressing to the Formula Renault series and has now earned a drive in the Formula 3000 European Grand Prix in Cagliari.
"He is inexperienced but he is a special talent," said team chief Vincenzo Sospiri.
Firman only scored one point in his debut season with Jordan.
